The large monastic complexes are one of the hallmarks of our Route, endowing the territory with a silence, respect and spirit that transport you to a time when wine was a very important part of daily life.
In this case, the Convent of San Blas is located in the beautiful town of Lerma in the province of Burgos. This building was built by the Duke of Lerma, Francisco de Sandoval y Rojas in the year 1612. Since then, the community has lived, prayed and worked in this convent.
Currently, it is inhabited by a community of contemplative Dominican nuns; There are 15 nuns, aged between 91 and 30, whose center of their day is praising the Lord: the trunk of their day is marked by the Liturgy of the Hours, which are interspersed with periods of study, sharing, and work (ceramics, works in clay, serigraphy, porcelain…).
These cloistered nuns, better known as the “WhatsApp Nuns” have become famous among a network of almost 1,000 direct contacts, to which we must add the multiplying capacity of the network, which each day transmit a brief story under the motto “Live of Christ”, through their ordinary life, based on experiences that happen to them or small things that they observe, transmit the presence of God in their life and are not lofty at all, but very simple. Every morning between 7:30 and 8:00 they come to our phones with their “Love Challenge” spreading their hearts overflowing with joy and happiness.
The monastery has two stores; “Cerámicas San Blas”, in which we can find ceramic pieces of artisan elaboration that are made with a potter’s wheel, and its other proposal “Vive de Cristo”, offering gifts for children and adults, books, communion pack… ; all designed and made from love.
The Dominicans of Lerma are the necessary stop for our spirit on the Arlanza Wine Route.
